1. PREPARE MERCILESSLY.
Discovering how to gain self-confidence becomes shockingly easier when you are willing to prepare. Many of us have huge goals and dreams, but we are unwilling to put the work in to achieve it. Being prepared does several massive things for you:
Firstly, when you are prepared you are much more likely to have realistic expectations for yourself. Which means that you won’t set ridiculous goals for yourself and become disenfranchised when you don’t reach them. And secondly, by being prepared you give yourself a plan of action to achieve the big things you want from life.
2. INDEPENDENCE.
A rarely discussed technique in learning how to gain self-confidence comes in being independent. While it is true that no man (or woman) is an island, it is equally debilitating to be over-reliant. I’m not just talking about people here either; it could be over-reliance on a career, a fitness regimen, etcetera. When we give ourselves options we allow ourselves flexibility when things inevitably take a turn for the worse.
By covering more angles and by being able to be fluid in tough situations we avoid the pitfalls of putting all of our eggs in one basket. Don’t depend on anyone or anything for your success, and not only will you put yourself on the fast track to finding out how to gain self-confidence, but you will also dramatically heighten your prospects of achieving personal success.
3. ACHIEVEMENT.
My absolute favourite method of discovering how to gain self-confidence comes in the form of achievement. When we achieve things we gain self-confidence, which in turn powers us to achieve more, taking us ever closer to sky-high levels of self-confidence. When you make a calculated risk, prepare, and achieve your goal – no matter how big or small – it gives you that intoxicating jolt of confidence and self-belief.
4. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR FEARS.
The biggest self-confidence killer is fear. Whether you are scared of failing, scared of succeeding, scared of underperforming; this doubt can soak into your brain and paralyse you from ever taking action. The first step in managing our fears is being aware of what they are. Often we cannot articulate exactly what it is that keeps us from taking action. Take the time necessary to sit down and be painfully honest with yourself.
Why have you not achieve the things you truly want from life? Why do you feel like you need to learn how to gain self-confidence? What are the instances in your life that have led you to believe this way? Write down your fears on a piece of paper -- merely thinking about them is not enough. Having them in words in front of you will force you to confront them.
5. CREATE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR YOURSELF.
It is difficult to gain self-confidence when you surround yourself with naysayers. Are the people around you vested in your success and happiness? Do they ridicule your dreams and goals under the guise of ‘friendship’? Envy and insecurity rear their ugly heads in many forms, and one of them is cutting you down when you try to achieve great things.
Make sure the people in your inner circle have your back and are willing to love you unconditionally regardless of whether you succeed or not. It is exponentially easier to gain self-confidence when the people in your life truly want to see you succeed.
